Houston Rodeo Adventure
You know…there are events you go to because you are deeply passionate about them, and then there are events you go to because you received last minute free tickets and decided to be spontaneous. The Houston Rodeo was definitely the second kind for us.
Let me start by saying this: we are from Louisiana, but we are not exactly “country” girls. At least not in the authentic, “We wear boot-cut jeans and large belt buckles year-round” kind of way. We showed up fully aware that we were , in fact, playing dress-up. The outfits were giving “rodeo cosplay”. But if you’re going to the rodeo, you might as well commit to the bit, right?
The first thing that hit me was the size of it all. My friend was astonished they had FOUR ferris wheels…she honestly wouldn’t shutup about it. So much so, it became the vocal stim of the night..”Holy shit, they’ve got four ferris wheels!” with the country accent getting more obnoxious each time we said it. I mean we were shoulder-to-shoulder, and we spent a large amount of time looking for quick drinks and bathrooms.
Surprisingly, the rodeo itself ended up being one of the most interesting parts of the night. We called it the “boy barn”. There were definitely some cute cowboys to look at …so it was entertaining. We also stayed for the Shaboozy concernt. I had just recently heard of him on the car right over. We were trying to hurry and learn his songs. HA! I mean this stadium was insane. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen this many people in one place, and I’m used to concerts and packed out stadiums. The stage rotated, and it was honestly making me feel nauseous! The preformer was amazing though! Kudos to him for standing on that spinning stage! We ended up leaving the concert early to avoid the massive crowd and made our way over to the pop-up bar across the street. The beer was calling our names.
Of course, as soon as we entered, my friend attracted attention in the form of a man in his 80s who was appearently fully committed to following her around and asking her to dance. She refused, so I had to take one for the team. It was breaking my heart! He just wanted to dance, poor baby. Anyway, we met people from all over the country: California, New York, etc. Like why travel that far for this? But to each their own I guess. We also met people that we ended up having mutual friends with, which was kind of crazy! What a small world.
Would I go again? Honestly…..yes. It was a good time with good people. If you ever find yourself planning a trip to the Houston rodeo, just be prepared for the crowds and get ready to see some outrageous outfits!
